Most of us have been “economically stimulated” already, but it sounds like it might not have been enough. You all told USA Today that you are staying in town this weekend, which means St. Louis has most of you all to it’s self.
As far as new restaurants, it seems you guys might either
- A) try Beso’s Mexican Cantina and Grill because you have to see what all of this is about
or
- B) Steering clear because that just ain’t right.
If neither of these options float your boat. This year’s Shakespeare Festival St. Louis opens tonight at 8 pm. Bonus? It is free and outside, so bring your vino and a lawn chair. I have been every year, and even if you aren’t a theater connoisseur you will have a great time. The festival runs through June 15th.
In my neighborhood, the little section of the block I refer to as the “Melrose Place Pool” is open. People don’t swim at my pool, they bake bask in oil covered glory and damage the delicate skin that covers their well toned muscles. They read gossip rags, sip vodka spiked lemonade, and act nonchalant while the pool manager makes her rounds and angrily reminds them they are breaking the rules. During the off-season I wonder what our pool manager does with her time. Is there some set of rules that she is valiantly defending non-poolside? I wonder how loud her whistle must be when it is blown indoors, and does her off season job let her blow it? If not, how does she enforce those rules she is entrusted to defend? The final question: does she wear that sleeveless t-shirt with the big red plus sign on the back even when there is 8 feet of snow on the ground? She is forever in my mind associated with the pool just as the wooden sunning decks, and little blue bobbers that separate the deep (the 9 feet kind) and the shallow (the little kid’s potty) ends of the pool.
Welcome back summer, I hear (arguably) that you might be around all of the time someday soon. Are you going to provide us with a great travel season, or are you glad that gas is so high that we can’t go anywhere because you need the break that spring, fall, and winter provides?
Anyone out there going out of town? If not, what are you looking forward to this weekend?
Go forth and do good, friends -
Melody

Heading to a crawfish boil tonight near Lafayette Park with a bunch of hooligans from college. It always proves to be a good time. Can’t let that babysitter go to waste!

Ohh, I am intrigued… what is a crawfish boil – just wikipedia’d the crawfish, if that tells you how “in the know” I am on this crawfish boil party you speak of…

That’s right, Memorial Day usually means opening day for the pool. How old age has made me forget that pasttime. I guess I could run through the sprinkler in my backyard??

Have you never been to a crawfish boil, Mel? (Look at me asking that. . . I’ve only been to one!)
I’m heading out to dinner tonight with a friend. . . tomorrow I’m meeting my mom at a BBQ some awesome friends of the family are throwing. I love seeing them; it’s gonna be great fun. Sunday and Monday I’m hoping to hang out with my guy and not spend any money, since you’re right: I was not stimulated enough.

I will absolutely be ‘in town’ this weekend. But I have never been much for traveling anyway.
