As the clock continues to race (not quickly enough sometimes) towards our wedding, I have been pulling together the details, vendors, and timelines.  I have some very exciting ideas in mind and things in place for the day and I can hardly wait to share them with you guys – post-celebration and relaxing honeymoon.  I began wondering if people noticed the details are there or if people notice more when the details are not there.  Regardless I am a fanatic about details so they ain’t going anywheres, but I want to pose the question to you, dear internets: what was in your mind the best.party.ever and and what do you remember the most about it?

***In the interest of full disclosure I am toying with the idea of doing party and wedding planning on the side after reading this, this, and this after I threw a party recently – y’all girls and readers are so sweet.  Feel free to leave a comment telling me I am dreaming and to come back to earth too, haha!***

the best party would have to be my wedding reception. It was a dry party since I was too young to drink, but we had so much fun. It was at Orlando Gardens, it was catered, we had some DJ from DJ service, but mostly it was the people who were there that made it fun!

It was so fun, in fact, that my wife and I are planning our 10 year anniversary for next year in the same fashion, although we’re probably going to go with the open bar model this time around.

The second greatest party was the first time I played Guitar Hero with a bunch of random strangers from my World of Warcraft guild. There’s something about getting a bunch of like minded folks (in this case geeks and gamers) together and pretending to play music on fake instruments that is CRAZY fun. We’ve all graduated to Rock Band and it’s all local, but it’s become a monthly thing that we all look forward too!

You know how I feel about party planning as a career. :)

One of my favorite parties was a fundraiser for the Arts & Education Council. It was held at the planetarium, and Groovethang played. The lights were low, we had glow necklaces and candles on the tables.

I like theme parties myself – it gives people something to talk about. The worst parties are where people stand around and don’t interact.

We just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. The day is definitely the best party ever, try and give yourself as much time to mingle with your guests. The day goes so fast.

One detail I was particular about was the guest book (very polybore). I had one made in the US and shipped over to Scotland. We had it made by http://www.fineblankbooks.com/

You can see the actual book here (they asked if they could use it as an example on their site).

Very traditional compared to some of their designs, but thats what we wanted.

Obviously my wedding reception. BUT – the best one I’ve been to since was my Wii launch party that Nintendo threw. All I did was the guest list. They made everything convenient for the guests, the details were great, and it was accentuated by our 30 friends guest list. Details are the finishing touch of any party.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who lists a video game party as one of their top favorites. I think it’s the social aspect. Your post inspired me: http://jasonbutler42.com/2008/06/13/social-gaming/

By far, the best party I’ve ever been to was not in the sense of “party” that you’re talking about. It was completely unplanned, spontaneous and no frills to be seen. It started off as a few friends coming over and then friends called friends and more friends and it just turned into a good time for all. I definitely think details (or no details) don’t stand a chance against great people!

Not to burst your bubble, but I have been to a LOT of weddings and have also planned my own. And yes, as you know, a LOT of details go into a wedding ceremony/reception. And the day of? I noticed not one bit of it. I was too caught up in the moment, etc. and I literally couldn’t have told you if there were flowers on the alter as I requested until I got my pictures back and saw that yes, they were, and they were beautiful. Honestly, not one of your guests will remember the centerpieces, or the take-home gift, or the table linens, or the color of your bridesmaid dresses. They will remember the food, how beautiful you looked, and how happy you both were. Now those are details worth remembering!:)

I think anywhere you are surrounded by those you love and laughter – those are the best parties EVAH!

    (adult beverages help too)
    ;-)

As an attendee, I really only notice the big things. Here is my list in order of importance: (1) booze, (2) music, (3) location, and (4) food. Those are really the only items on my list. And usually if you are good on (1) and (2), I forget the rest of the details.

I love the details, as you’re probably aware. But I also think that guests at weddings DO notice and do care— the details are as much for the guests as they are for the bride, IMO. (and i’m not talking all-out-fancy weddings only— details are unique to every wedding, of every size, of every budget).

i definitely second dana that you should consider doing this as a career.
