While Melody is away enjoying honeymoon paradise, she’s asked a few fellow bloggers to take over for her. I waited patiently for a topic request, an assignment, or maybe parameters of what I should or shouldn’t write about – but she never specified. To that I say, thanks for giving me the freedom to blog about whatever! Until Melody returns with a wedding story of her own, I thought I could share one of mine with you.
James and I were married last summer on Ke’e Beach, Kauai. With exception to the sun blazing down on us, the hot sand burning our feet and the wind whipping sand into our eyes, our beach wedding was exactly what we imagined. We got lei’d as part of our Hawaiian ceremony, which included reading vows we had written to each other. It was just the two of us and it was perfection.
Afterward we ate lunch at the Princeville Resort in Hanalei. While sitting at the table having our first meal as a married couple, some older gentlemen stops by and jokingly asks, “You guys still getting along?”
I smiled and faked a laugh, but while he and James briefly chatted I was thinking, “Hey, smartguy, we were having a conversation and you weren’t invited. Plus, you butted in while I was speaking. I believe the veil and wedding dress both give me the conversational right-of-way.”
The dude walked away and I turned around to beam an evil stare into the back of his head. While doing so, the husband at the next table over leaned around his wife and said to us, “Whoa! That was Craig T. Nelson!?”
Yes, it was.
Some celebrity spotter, I am.

To me, that guy will always be “Coach”. He probably thought he was doing you a favor by being the “official celebrity of your wedding day”!

hmmm. . . ok, so I tried to leave this really detailed comment about my own celebrity run-ins. . . except all of mine aren’t really celebrities, just locally so. So my basic point was, you win. Even if you didn’t recognize him.

Nice to know what Kauai looks like in the day time. I just spent 3 hours in their airport (I thought I was in a trailer) waiting to get home from Honolulu!
As for celebrity spotting, I once definitely had a 3 minute conversation with Albert Pujols about childrens shoes before someone told me who I was talking to. This was his first season in St. Louis, so I’ve forgiven myself!

You didn’t ever tell me that story!!! I can’t believe you had your wedding lunch conversation interrupted by the “Coach”.
