I’ve got a problem. It’s an addiction. I horde buttons. I’m that crazy gal at the garage sales buying bags and bags of old ladies’ buttons for a quarter. My stash has now reached an unhealthy level, but there are so many fun things to do with these colorful bits- I just can’t let them go. My favorites are the kitschy ones from the 1960′s: flowers, fabric-covered, and rainbow colored. What’s a girl to do with a bazillion buttons….?
… make funky tealight holders, of course.
You’ll need:
- Plain glass jars with a smooth surface (or simple votive candle holders)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Buttons, buttons and more buttons
I found a few plain, boring, old glass votive holders under my sink. You can dig these up at your nearest garage sale, Goodwill store, or even at Dollar General for a buck. It would be fun to snag a few of different sizes- but a smooth surface is preferred.

Using your hot glue gun, adhere your buttons to the smooth surface of your jar or candle holder with small dots of glue. Quickly press your button onto the glue and hold until cool.
From here it is up to you. Layer your buttons, go crazy with color, or just cover each jar with your favorites. I chose to cover only one side of each of my jars, myself.
Once your glue is cooled and you remove those annoying strands of hot glue from the jar, place a tea light candle in the bottom and you’re finished. Make a few more in a variety of sizes and colors for an amazing and handmade centerpiece.

So dang cute! I am a button lover too and am always looking for new ways to display the colorful bits. Great project!

You can glue them onto blank earring studs or ring bases for quick-n-easy custom jewelry, too. I glued some onto tiny hair pins for my niece.
