There are about 853,799 blogs listed on Technorati.com – that’s a lot of damn blogs. But just because a blog exists doesn’t mean that it is updated regularly, or that it is even any good (obviously, as evidenced by this here blog). Sadly, one of my favorite places to find local blogs, STLBloggers.com, rode off into the sunset, but if you see it floating around out there in cyberspace let me know because it took my Aston Martin with it, too. Without that site it is a little more difficult to find local bloggers, and without my car it is a little more difficult to race on that stretch of highway 44 between Eureka and Valley Park. Needless to say – sadness.
I have about 80 blogs in my reader that are written by individual St. Louis folks, and I really liked all of them at one point or another (else I am too lazy to copy and paste their feed into my reader). But of all those blogs, only about 20-25 update on a regular basis. Sure, I read the Gut Checks and the SLM Look/Listens of the local blogosphere, which are good, too. But I am really starting to miss the individual voices out there, and finding new ones can be kinda difficult – especially if you are kinda lazy like me.
One of the best ways to find new folks in cyberspace is through recommendations, though. So here is our recommendation and pick for the Girls Guide to the Blogging Galaxy Blogger of the Month for December: Patrick Says
Sure, this is the Girl’s Guide to the Galaxy and yes, Patrick is a dude. But he is seriously one of my all time favorite bloggers in St. Louis. Unlike the rambling and wandering prose you find in my blog posts (yes, that is perhaps a bastardization of that word but wouldn’t my creative writing professor be proud if I referred to my writing that way, even sarcastically?), Patrick’s posts (numbering almost at 1,000) usually come right in at the 100 word-count. And they always are honest, to the point and most of the time hilarity.
He describes himself as ‘Geek. Father. Husband. Liberal. Agnostic.’ which is awesome when the blogging circuits overfloweth with ‘Cheerleader. Mommy. Wife. Conservative. Christian.’ Not that there is anything wrong with that – some of my favorite blogs are just that, but it definitely makes Patrick unabashedly refreshing, even in his brevity.
No, there aren’t tonka truck loads of fabulous prizes or bevies of cash awaiting the winner at the end of this post, but there is the love and adoration of me and I know my dog wouldn’t trade that for the world (or at least I would hope).
If I had to guess at Patrick’s reaction to being named December’s St. Louis Blogger of the Month, I wouldn’t do a very good job at it. So, instead, I will leave you on good advice to read PatrickSays.net, follow him on Twitter at @PatrickD88, and (in homage) randomly with this:

I tried to collect a lot of St. Louis blogs on my website – http://southcitystl.com, but you’re right, it’s hard to find new ones! I’ll check out Patrick’s site

I feel like an absolute schmuck having just found this post today. I am a douchebag. I’m sorry.
Melody is awesome. She’s a blogger I actually like in real life and wouldn’t mind hanging with. She listens and doesn’t try to shove anything down your throat, which is a condition a good deal of bloggers suffer from (even me on occasion).
Thanks for the honor of StL-BotM. I’m going to go hide in shame in the corner for missing this post.
